Kara StewartInbound Marketing Consulting For The Technology Channel

Channel communities are complicated. Our relationships are multi-faceted and usually based on solutions made up of products from several different vendors sold through call centers at distribution companies.  I’ve worked hard to understand the different players who make up the technology distribution channel as well as the business owners whose success depends on choosing the right solution.

It’s easy for these players to begin talking past one another by throwing around industry jargon. I can help you hone your message and target the right prospects with messages they can understand, and most importantly, keep them coming back to you.

My Education: The Solution Center

I got acquainted with the technology channel at Ingram Micro, the world’s largest tech distributor, as the program manager for their Solution Center. During my time there, not only was I schooled in everything from virtualization to IP surveillance, I got to spend time on a regular basis with vendors, resellers and end users all in the same room at the same time. I got to know these people. I worked hard to learn about who they are and what motivates them. I went on to work more closely with resellers, assisting with marketing and even project management.

I Want To Be A Tech Marketing Magellan

My goal is to take what I’ve learned about inbound marketing and be one of the first to find the sweet spot when it comes to social media in the channel. The tools might not exist yet. I don’t have a lot of hope that today’s resellers will be sending direct messages on Twitter instead of emailing or lining up deals via Facebook. But people are people. The new media movement isn’t going to pass the channel by. I want to work with the companies who are ready to be first across the threshold. I want to be one of the people who helps shape the next tech marketing landscape.
